Best Portuguese Museum
At the 2021 APOM Awards ceremony, Casa Fernando Pessoa received the Best Portuguese Museum Award, which distinguished the quality of the project and the ability to renew.
After refurbishment works, Casa Fernando Pessoa reopened to the public in August 2020, duly requalified and more accessible, with a new long-term exhibition on Pessoa. The collection is now arranged to accompany and involve the visitor, from the first known written record of Pessoa, at the age of six; until the last sentence he wrote, on the eve of his death.
The library (specializing in poetry) was renovated and the auditorium, transferred to the ground floor, is now better equipped.
The refurbishment works made the building more accessible and sustainable, improved visitors’ circulation paths and allowed an increase of the exhibition area. The Casa has a new and sole entrance, reorganized spaces, and more fluid paths.
In its relationship with the public, the Casa works daily to grant a diversified offer and to present itself as a welcoming space - from the physical, social and intellectual viewpoints - for people with different profiles and different levels of knowledge about Pessoa and literature.
In being awarded as Best Portuguese Museum, as stated by João Neto, president of APOM (Portuguese Association of Museology), Casa Fernando Pessoa stood out among more than 200 project candidacies: "a museum that reformulated itself, believing it was able to change into another dimension".
Casa Fernando Pessoa’s team is very thankful for this distinction!
