Landeg White (1940-2017)
Born in Wales in 1940, he died in 2017. He was a poet, translator and university Professor. He was settled in Portugal since 1994, having been a professor at the Department of Humanities of the Open University, and a researcher at the Communication and Culture Research Centre of Católica University. In December 2017, Portugal’s House of Parliament paid tribute to him for his contributions to Portuguese literature. He dedicated much of his life to the study of Luís de Camões’ work, and he was one of the greatest English language researchers of this Portuguese writer. In 1996, he authored a translation of Os Lusíadas, which earned him wide academic and editorial recognition.
