Gisela Casimiro
Born in Guinea-Bissau, in 1984. She is an artist, writer, translator and activist. She published the poetry books Erosão and Giz (Urutau, 2018 and 2023) and the chronicle book Estendais (Caminho, 2023). She wrote the plays Casa com Árvores Dentro, staged by Cláudia Semedo; and Vida: Uma Aplicação (PANOS/TNDMII). She translated Sister Outsider and The Cancer Journals, by Audre Lorde, and Miss Major Speaks: Conversations with a Black Trans Revolutionary, by Toshio Meronek and Miss Major Griffin-Gracy. She was also the co-translator for We Will Win! - Selected Speeches, by Thomas Sankara; and has translated works by Sonya Lindfors and JulianKnxx. She co-founded UNA - União Negra das Artes. Her texts are translated into Turkish, Mandarin, German, Spanish and English.
