Simon Armitage (England)
The current UK Poet Laureate (2019-2029), born in 1963 in England. An author of poetry, prose, and essays, a playwright, and a translator, he has received numerous awards, including the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry and the PEN America Award for Poetry Translation. He has published over a dozen poetry books, Magnetic Field: The Marsden Poems (Faber & Faber, 2020) being the standout. He performs with the band LYR and has been honoured with the Ivor Novello Award for songwriting. The lyrics of his songs are collected in his latest book, Never Good with Horses (Faber & Faber, 2023). He holds the position of Poetry Professor at the University of Leeds.
