John O’Kane

Born in 1940 in Manhattan, New York City. Graduated from Princeton University in Classical Studies (Greek and Latin). He studied Arabic in Cairo and Persian in Teheran, in the 1960s. He is an independent scholar based in Amsterdam. His publications are mostly translations that relate to Islamic civilization, in particular Sufism and Sufi hagiography. The same is true of the five volumes of German academic works he has translated dealing with medieval Persian poetry and early Arabic history. He has a hobby in Modern Greek.
